House. C16, altered in late C19. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with
handmade red clay tiles. Early C16 2-bay range aligned E-W, with axial stack at
E end. Late C16 and C18 3-bay range to E, with axial stack in middle bay. Late
C19 extensions to N and S, with end stacks. 2 storeys, cellar and attic. The S
elevation is in Tudor Revival style, the left half jettied, with 2 late C19
tripartite sashes on each floor and one C18 sash of 12 lights on the first
floor. Central C20 door with gabled and fretted canopy, late C19. All chimney
shafts in Tudor Revival style. The interior of the early C16 (rear) range has
chamfered transverse beams on half-height jowls, chamfered axial beams, jowled
posts, close studding with 'Suffolk' braces trenched to the inside, and diamond
mortices and shutter grooves for 2 unglazed windows, now blocked, in the upper S
wall. The late C16 (front) range has 2 exposed jowled posts, one of which is
splay-scarfed near the base, but little other exposed evidence. The upper and
lower front rooms are lined with introduced oak panelling, c.1600, with
reproduction carved frieze and chimney-piece, c.1870. The lower front room has
an early C19 corner cupboard with domed head and geometrical fretting at the
sides. The owner has architect's drawings of the conversion executed c.1868.
