TL 72 NW SHALFORD CODHAM'S LANE

3/55 Lone's Hole (south)

GV II

Cottage. Late C18. Timber framed, plastered, roof thatched. 3 bays facing SW,
with central stack. C19 rear extension with catslide roof. One storey with
attics. 2-window range of C2O casements, the lower windows with external hinged
shutters, the upper windows in swept dormers. Original boarded door with small
inserted pane, in C20 tiled gabled porch. One C20 plain boarded door. Gambrel
roof. Plain axial beams, joists plastered to soffits. 2 hearths back to back
with brick arches on iron straps, forming a lobby-entrance. Original stair to
rear of stack. Original brick floor in left room, original floorboards. This
cottage and that immediately to the north are both known as Lone's Hole; they
are distinguished here as (north) and (south).
