TL 72 NW SHALFORD SHALFORD GREEN

3/78 Ash Tree Cottage

Cottage. Late C17, altered in C20. Timber framed, plastered and
weatherboarded, roof thatched. 3 bays facing SW, with central stack forming a
lobby-entrance. C20 single-storey flat-roofed extension at rear. One storey
with attics. 3 C20 casements. C20 door at front of tiled gabled porch. Roof
half-hipped at both ends. Large wood-burning hearth facing to left, C20 grate
in smaller hearth facing to right. In the left bay a chamfered transverse beam
without stops, and plain joists of vertical section supported on a pegged clamp.
In the right bay, a chamfered axial beam with lamb's tongue stops, supported on
a transverse beam, and similar joists. Primary straight bracing, face-halved and
bladed scarfs in wallplates, clasped purlin roof. Fully framed doorway through
tiebeam. RCHM 21.
