TL 72 NW SHALFORD SHALFORD GREEN

House. C.1600, extended in C19 to form a row of cottages, now combined. Timber
framed, roughcast rendered and weatherboarded, roofed with handmade red clay
tiles. 4 bays facing NW, with axial stack. Extended to right in C19, with
another axial stack. C19 exension of red brick at rear right, with corner
stack, combined with adjacent C20 extension under catslide roof. C20 extension
with catslide roof at rear left. One storey with attics. 5 C20 casements, and
4 more in gabled dormers. Entrance in rear right extension. The original
building has jowled posts, heavy studding with curved braces trenched to the
inside, inserted floor of chamfered beams with lamb's tongue stops, and plain
joists of horizontal and vertical sections. The walls have been raised approx.
0.80 metre in the C17.
