Cottage. C.1600, extended in C17. Timber framed, plastered, roof thatched. 4
bays facing NW, the right bay being a short one containing an axial stack.
One-bay extension to right, C17. One storey with attics. 2 C19 horizontally
sliding sashes of 12 lights, one C19 casement of 12 lights. One horizontally
sliding sash of 12 lights in gabled dormer. Plain boarded door. Inscription

1718 in oval raised border in plastered gable of dormer. The original building
has jowled posts, curved braces trenched inside the studding, and a clasped
purlin roof with arched wind bracing. The left bay has longitudinal plain
joists of horizontal section, raised. The middle part has a chamfered
transverse beam with lamb's tongue stops. To left of this beam the joists are
of horizontal section and chamfered. To right of it the joists are of vertical
section and plain. Large wood-burning hearth reduced for stove. The right bay
has unjowled posts, a chamfered axial beam without stops, and plain joists of
vertical section. The short bay at the right end of the original cottage was
constructed for a timber framed chimney, larger than the present stack. Both of
its tiebeams have been removed, and the substitution of some joists became
necessary because the original joists were not long enough to reach the present
stack. Some early floorboards. Early winder stair to rear of stack.
