1/105 The Red Cow Public
Rouse, now a public house. C.1600. Timber framed, roughcast rendered,
roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 3 bays facing S with axial stack in middle
bay forming a lobby-entrance, and rear wing with later internal stack, forming a
T-plan. Single-storey extension to right, C18/C19. One storey with attics.
Ground floor, 2 late C19 sashes of 6 lights, one early C19 sash of 16 lights.
First floor, 2 C19 casements in gabled dormers. 6-panel door with shallow hood
on profiled brackets, and plain boarded door in C20 timber porch. Roof
half-hipped at both ends. Jowled posts, chamfered axial beams with lamb's
tongue stops, plain joists of horizontal section in left bay, square section in
right bay. 2 large wood-burning hearths. The left ground-floor room has a dado
of oak panelling, c.1600, and a panelled oak door of the same date with
