House. C18, with C19 alterations. Red brick in Flemish bond, rear wings timber
framed and plastered, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. Main range facing SW
(away from Braintree Road) with one axial stack left of centre, and 2 rear
stacks symmetrically arranged. Small 2-storey extension to left, set back from
front. 2 rear wings, each with an internal stack, and central stair well
between them, the whole forming an approximately square plan. Single-storey
extension with internal stack at rear left corner. 2 storeys with attics. The
central part of the main elevation breaks slightly forwards. Ground floor, late
C19 bay of sashes, C20 sash of 12 lights. First floor, 5 similar sashes. All
sash windows have flat brick arches. Central C20 glazed door with geometrical
tracery in overlight. Plain parapet. Mansard roof, half-hipped. C18 3-light
and 4-light windows with wrought iron casements in rear wings. The central
well, open to the roof, has twist-turned balusters. The stair has stick
balusters. Semi-elliptical arches and ceilings.
