roof thatched. 2-bay hall facing NW, with C17 stack in right bay, storeyed
service bay to right, storeyed parlour/solar bay to left. C18 2-bay crosswing
at left end, extending to rear, with C18 internal stack at the junction. C20
single-storey extension in rear angle, partly tiled, partly flat-roofed. C18
bakehouse to rear of right end, originally free-standing, now connected to the
house. One storey with attics. Ground floor, 4 C20 casements. First floor, 3
more, including 2 in swept dormers. C20 door in front of tiled lean-to porch.
One C18 wooden casement window in left return wall with rectangular leading and
vertical saddle bars. Jowled posts, heavy studding with arched bracing trenched
to the inside. Large wood-burning hearth of 0.23 metre brickwork facing left,
with chamfered mantel beam and lamb's tongue stops. Smaller hearth back to back
with it, blocked. Early C17 inserted floor in hall comprising chamfered
transverse beam with lamb's tongue stops, plain joists of vertical section, and
original rebated boards. Partition between hall and parlour removed. Original

windows at each end, on upper storey. One tiebeam severed, another missing.
Roof difficult of access, but apparently of collar-rafter construction,
smoke-blackened over hall. This building has been 3 cottages, and still has 3
stairs, although now one house. Bread oven at rear right corner of bakehouse,
access blocked. RCHM 31.
