1/146 Tinkers Cross

House. Mid-C16, altered in C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade
red clay tiles. 2-bay main range facing SW with axial stack in right bay, 2-bay
crosswing at right with C19 internal stack at rear end. Single-storey lean-to
extensions to left of main range and to rear of crosswing. C20 2-storey
extension at right rear corner of crosswing. 2 storeys. On each floor, 2 C20
casements and 2 C20 small fixed lights. C20 door, in original position in right
bay of main range. The crosswing has an underbuilt jetty and a half-hip at the
front. The end of the collar-purlin is visible externally at the front and back
of the crosswing. Jowled posts, close studding with curved tension braces
trenched to the inside, chamfered beams, plain joists of horizontal section,
grooves for sliding shutters, a restored unglazed window in the right upper wall
of the crosswing. Substantial restoration with re-used timber, c.1939. Large
wood-burning hearth facing to left, with cross-entry to rear of it. Both parts
of the house have crownpost roofs with axial braces. RCHM 36, then described as
