railings at entrance
to Colne Park

GV II

Gateway, piers, gates and railings. Circa 1800. Limestone and cast iron.
Aligned NW-SE, comprising double gates, single gate to right, 9 stone piers, and
railngs on dwarf walls to both sides. Piers square and rusticated. Height of
base wall 2 metres at SE end, less elsewhere owing to gradient. Piers approx. 3
metres high. The gates, and one bay of railings to each side, are approx. 2.5
metres high, with scrolled and foliate ornament at top and bottom. One bay of
railings to NW and 2 bays to SE are approx. one metre high, of geometrical
design with scrolls. Overall length approx. 30 metres.
