Aylett's Farmhouse

Barn. Late C16, with later alterations. Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed
with corrugated iron. 3 bays with midstrey to NE. One-bay extension to NW, and
shorter extension to SE. Catslide extension in E angle. At the N corner it
links with a C19 brick and flint cartlodge roofed with red clay pantiles, and
other farm buildings beyond of no special interest. Jowled posts, thin curved
bracing trenched to the inside of the studs. Some arched braces to tiebeams,
some bolted knees. The NE wall to SE of the midstrey retains original wattle
and daub infill. Roof rebuilt in C19/20, raised above its original level in the
SW pitch. Included for group value.
