House. C15, extended in C18 and early C19. Timber framed, plastered and
weatherboarded, roofed with handmade red plain tiles, and early C19 entrance
range of painted brick in Flemish bond, roofed with slate. 3 bays aligned N-S,
with C16/17 stack to W. C18 extension to N with axial stack at end, and C19
single-storey lean-to extension beyond, roofed with slate. Early C19 parallel
range to W, forming the entrance elevation. 2 storeys. 4-window range of early
C19 sashes of 12 lights with flat arches of gauged brick, and crown glass. Off-
centre early C19 6-panel door, the bottom panels flush, with flat jambs and
paterae, and semi-elliptical arch with fanlight and radial tracery; C20 semi-
circular porch on stanchions. Plain band at first-floor level. Hipped roof of
shallow pitch with long overhanging eaves. The left end of the rear range,
projecting beyond the entrance range, is weatherboarded, with on the first floor
2 C19 horizontal sashes of 12+12 lights. The rear elevation has on the ground
floor 2 similar windows, but turned to form vertical sashes, one early C19 sash
of 10+10 lights, and one early C19 fixed window of 12 lights; and on the first
floor one early C19 horizontal sash of 12+12 lights, altered for a ventilator,
and one of 8+12 lights. The right end of the rear roof is half-hipped.
Chamfered binding beams on ledged posts; plain joists of horizontal section
jointed to them with unrefined soffit tenons. Cambered tie beam, incomplete
crownpost roof; one plain crownpost survives with a short length of collar-
purlin, one severed collar, and one rafter couple. Most of the rafters in the W
pitch of the roof are original. The E pitch of one bay has been raised and
roofed with slate, the remainder tiled and of normal tile pitch. The roof of
the N extension is of clasped purlin construction. The entrance range has an
original 2-flight stair with turned newels, mahogany wreathed handrail and stick
balusters.
