House. Late medieval, altered in C18 and C19. Timber framed, plastered, roofed
with handmade red plain tiles. 2 bays facing NW, with C19 axial stack at left
end; at the right end a vehicle way has been cut through the lower storey only.
C19 single-storey wing to rear of left end, roofed with red clay pantiles, and
similar lean-to in rear left angle. 2 storeys and unlit attic. Ground floor,
one early C19 sash of 16 lights, and larger sash of 12 lights with moulded
canopy in early C19 style. First floor, 2 early C19 sashes of 16 lights and one
of 12 lights over door. Early C19 6-panel door, the bottom panels flush, the
others moulded, in reeded architrave with paterae and moulded flat canopy.
Plaster at front ashlared. The rear elevation over the vehicle way is
weatherboarded, and has one C19 horizontal sash of 12 lights. In the left lower
room is an early C19 fireplace with reeded surround and paterae, with recesses
each side with semi-elliptical arches; a chamfered transverse beam with plain
stops is mostly boxed. Another early C19 semi-elliptical arch at the rear end
of the entrance-hall. To right of the entrance hall an axial beam is papered
over, terminating in the vehicle way, where it is chamfered. Early C19 stair
with turned newels, moulded handrail and stick balusters. Most of the frame is
concealed by interior finishes. The roof is of coupled rafters; no evidence of
a crownpost structure is apparent. In the left bay the rafters are lightly
smoke-blackened, indicating that this was formerly an open hall.
