House. Late C18/early C19, altered in later C19. Timber framed, plastered and
weatherboarded, roofed with handmade red plain tiles. Main range facing N, with
central stack, and truncated stack near left front corner. Rear wing at right
end with end stack, and later extension beyond. Later C19 rear wing to left of
this wing. 2 storeys. Ground floor, 4 early C19 sashes of 16 lights, with
crown glass. First floor, 3 similar sashes, one of 12 lights over central door,
and blank aperture at right end. 6-panel door, bottom panels flush, middle
panels fielded, top panels glazed, in plaster rusticated doorcase with engaged
fluted columns, triglyph frieze and moulded pediment. Railings and double gates
along full length of front, returning to house at right end and attached,
comprising 6 round cast iron stanchions with enlarged heads and fluted friezes,
6 plain iron uprights with spikes, 2 rails, fleur-de-lis finials and hoops;
gates in similar style. Right return (garden elevation), ground floor, 3 early
C19 sashes of 12 lights and one of 16, with crown glass; first floor, 2 similar
sashes of 12 lights, and one with a semi-circular head. All but this last have
C19 louvred external shutters. Central door similar to that at the front, in
doorcase with fluted pilasters and moulded flat canopy. Weatherboarded on left
return and rear elevation, the remainder plastered. The interior retains hinged
internal shutters to all ground-floor rooms, 6-panel doors, early C19 straight
stair, and other original features. In the main range 2 fireplaces on each side
of the central entrance-hall have flues which join over an arch. In the right
rear wing a C16 stop-chamfered transverse beam appears to be an introduction; no
other C16 structure has been identified.
