Range of 4 attached cottages. Late C19 in Tudor Revival style. Red brick in
English bond, some roughcast timber framing, roofed with handmade plain and
ornamental red clay tiles. Single-span range facing NW with 2 axial stacks. 2
wings extend forwards, each with a jetty. Open lean-to canopy between the
wings, and altered similar canopy to left of left wing. Minor extensions to
rear. One storey with attics. Ground floor, 4 C19 casements of 3 lights; nos.
26 and 27 retain the original cast iron lattices. First floor, 2 C19 splayed
oriels of 4 lights, and 2 C19 casements with hexagonal leading. 4 plain boarded
doors. All casements have chamfered surrounds of plaster. On each jetty,
re-used early C16 carved fascia of folded leaf design. 4 gables with fretted
bargeboards. The middle canopy is supported on 4 moulded wooden posts, and has
a fretted border of fleur-de-lis design. The left canopy (to no. 25) has a C20
side wall, no posts, and similar border. On the central canopy all the tiles
are ornamental; on the main roof plain and ornamental tiles are hung in
horizontal bands. Crested tiles on ridge. The left return of no. 25 has on the
ground floor 3 single-light casements with hexagonal leading, and on the first
floor one similar light without, all with plastered surrounds as at the front.
The right return of no. 28 has a gabled porch with fretted bargeboards. RCHM 9
states that moulded beams and joists of the same date are re-used inside.
