House. Early C18, extended in C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with
handmade red plain tiles. 4 bays facing SW with stack in second bay from right
end, against front wall. C19 one-bay extension to right. C20 extension with
flat roof along most of rear, except C20 single-storey lean-to extension near
left end. One storey with attics. 3 C20 casements on ground floor, 2 more in
gabled dormers. C20 door at front of lean-to porch. Gambrel roof half-hipped
at both ends. The stack comprises a large wood-burning hearth facing to right,
with blocked aperture for missing bread oven to front (formerly outside the
house) and a C20 mantel beam. The other hearth, facing to left, has been
reduced in width in the C20 to form a lobby-entrance. The frame includes much
re-used timber of all periods. Primary straight bracing. Longitudinal plain
joists in 2 right bays, and one transverse chamfered beam with lamb's tongue
stops, re-used. In bay to left of stack, chamfered axial beam, unstopped. The
tiebeam one bay from the left end is inscribed IB 1710.
