II

House, now a public house. C16 or earlier, altered in C19 and C20. Timber
framed and brick, plastered, roofed with interlocking concrete tiles. 3 bays
facing W, with late C16 internal stack in right bay, and C19/20 external stack
at left end. C19 crosswing at right end, extending forwards. 2 storeys. C20
single-storey lean-to extension in front left angle. C20 flat-roofed
single-storey extension at rear left corner, other extensions to rear. Ground
floor, one tripartite sash, 2 C20 casements, one C19 sash with marginal lights.
First floor, one C20 casement and 2 more in gabled dormers, one C19 sash with
marginal lights. C20 glazed door. The front wall only of the main range has
been raised approx. one metre, now mainly enclosed by front lean-to extension,
into which the 2 dormers are recessed. Low-pitched roofs to front of main range
and on right wing. The middle bay of the main range has exposed plain joists of
horizontal section. Binding beam between this and the left bay boxed in,
possibly modern. Large wood-burning hearth in right bay, facing to left,
originally extending to rear wall, but rear part demolished for bar; chamfered
mantel beam with cranked upper surface, truncated at left end; brickwork of
front jamb renewed with C18/19 bricks, undisturbed above mantel beam.
