GV II

Barn. Early C16 or earlier, altered in C20. Timber framed, weatherboarded,
roofed with red interlocking concrete tiles. Aligned NE-SW, with 2 threshing
bays and 10 short bays, tiebeams at alternate bay posts. Overall length approx.
30 metres. Exceptionally large span, approx. 7 metres. Midstrey to SE near SW
end, with lean-to extensions each side of it. Midstrey to NW near NE end, with
lean-to extension in N angle. Other lean-to extensions at NE end and in middle
of NW side. Alternate jowled and unjowled posts. Girts, heavy curved tension
braces above them, trenched inside heavy studding. Some original tiebeams, the
arched braces to them missing, some tiebeams renewed. Roof rebuilt in C20. RCHM
(Little Coggeshall) 3.
