2/131 Allshot's Farmhouse

GV II

House. Circa 1600, extended in C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with
machine-made red plain tiles. 2 bays aligned approx. NE-SW with stack at NE
end; originally the house extended further in this direction, demolished in C20.
C19 external stack. at SW end. C20 extension to NW, forming a T-plan. C20
single-storey extension to SW. Scattered fenestration, all C20 casements. Door
in SW extension. One storey with attics. Close studding with straight trenched
braces. Chamfered. axial beam with lamb's tongue stops in NE bay, plain joists
of vertical section. The chamfered axial beam in the SW bay is enlarged at one
end, with unusually elaborate stops and a moulded step. Shown as Holdshot's
Farm on tithe map of 1841 (Essex Record Office, D/CT 196). RCHM 51.
