Cottage. 1799. Timber framed, plastered and weatherboarded, roofed with
handmade red clay tiles. 3 bays facing W, with internal stack at right end and
external stack at left end. Rear wing, with external stack at end, forming a
T-plan. C19 lean-to extension in left rear angle. C20 flat-roofed
single-storey extension in right rear angle and to rear of rear wing. 2
storeys. 2-window range of original 3-light windows each with one wrought iron
casement, all with original rectangular leading. Central boarded door with one
light, in early C19 trellised porch with tented metal canopy. The court rolls
for 13 May 1799 record that this cottage had been lately erected on manorial
waste, since the previous court in October 1798 (Essex Record Office, D/DHR
M114).
