Listing Text

Midnight Chapel
TL 3800 NW 1/1B 26.1.56.

AM. Late C12 or early C13 slype of 2 bays forming an entry to the former cloister
of the Abbey of the Holy Cross (raised from Priory to Abbey 1184). Probably
built before 1242, date of rededication of enlarged church. Coursed rubble
and ashlar, open archways either end, stone vault.

Church of the Holy Cross and St Lawrence, Abbey Gateway, Midnight Chapel and
Harolds Bridge, Walls of Abbey and Chapter House, Garden Wall and the Vicarage
form a group.
