TQ 49 NW 6/217
Circa 1824 on site of an earlier house. Stucco, hipped Welsh slate roof. 3 storeys
with plinth, quoins, modillion cornice. 3 sash windows in architrave surrounds,
lower side windows 3 light, 1st floor cornices on consoles supporting pediments.
Door cornice hood in centre on brackets and fluted half columns with bases,
no capitals. 2 storey 2 window wing.
Listed partly for historical interest as a former private asylum which housed
the poet John Clare, 1837-40. The building then known as Dr Allen's Lunatic
Asylum, Fair Mead House.
