4/53 "Greensted Hall"

GV II*

House. Now 3 dwellings. Probably a Medieval Hall core with extensive c.1700
rebuilding, said to have been an open hearth under the centre of the present
drawing room. Timber framed with brick cladding to half H-plan front. Red
plain tiled roofs.2 storeys and attics. 2:6:1: window range of small paned
vertical sliding sash windows, 3 gable dormers. Parapet. Segmental brick
arches to windows. Sundial to left crosswing with date (1698 A and M.C.)
Alexander and Mary Cleeve date "1695" on S front. Central pedimented doorcase
with C20 small paned glazed door. The East front has a central pediment. West
front 4:1:4 window range of small paned vertical sliding sashes, and a
projecting open porch. Interior with central pine panelled drawing room, pine
chimney pieces and other panelling, a fine staircase with twisted balusters and
carved string all of c.1700. 3 large red brick chimney stacks. RCHM 2.
