TL 521 091 HIGH LAVER Church Farmhouse

House, late C16, extended and altered in C20. Timber framed, plastered with
some framing exposed externally, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 4 bays
aligned approx. E-W, aspect S, with axial chimney stack in second bay from W.
Single storey with attics. 2 storey crosswing to E, C20. Gabled porch with
door to E, 4 casement windows, all C20. First floor, one C20 casement window
and 2 more in hipped dormers. Chimney shafts of T-plan. Roof half-hipped at
W end. Some framing exposed internally. Jowled posts, arched braces to
wallplates, clasped purlin roof, not smoke-blackened. Inserted floor in 'hall'
with axial beam plain-chamfered with lamb's tongue steps, exposed joists of
vertical section unchamfered. Winding stair to N of chimney stack giving access
to upper rooms each side of stack, early C17. This houses appears to have been
built originally with a brick chimney stack in a 'hall' open to the roof with
2 storeyed ends, floor inserted in hall and winding stair added in early C17.
