House. Late C15 and late C16 timber framed and plastered. 2 storeys. 'L'
shaped plan form with clay peg tile hipped and gabled roof. 2, later, slate
roofed lean-to extensions between the 2 wings. The front elevation is of
painted brickwork, with a parapet and a hipped peg tile roof incorporating
remains of original structure. Central doorcase with rusticated surround
with tripartite sash windows with glazing bars 6/6 pattern, under segmental
arched heads, on each floor, on either side. Otherwise similar, but narrower
sash windows over doorcase. Other windows are a mixture of wooden and old iron
casements with small panes. Main stack to rear of southern range has diagonally
placed, red brick, cruciform stack. Of 2 major builds, the S facing block is
of 3 bays of heavy timber framing with elaborately carved and chamfered floor
joists and a 4-centred arched tie beam to the first floor chamber. This block
was formerly jettied on the S side, has late C16 arched brick fireplaces on
both floors and a fragment of C17 wall painting. The W wing is of 4 bays of
late C16 timber framing with contemporary stack at the N end. Early brick lined
cellar and elegant'Cl9 staircase. Red brick garden wall around S and W sides,
cast iron yard pump and remains of moat. (RCHM 10).
