6/11 Barn 50m NNE of
Shellow Hall

GV II

Small barn or byre. Mid C16 and C17 timber framed and brick with corrugated
asbestos roof with hip on north and half hip to south. Of five bays the 3
southern bays are a rebuild of early C17 with lean-to's on west side, either
side of hipped midstrey. The 2 north bays have simple crownpost roof, arched
braces to tie beams and compression braces in corners. Alternate studs now
removed and infilled with C19 red brick. Other 3 bays have arch braced
tiebeams, early reused posts, queen post roof with side purlins and reused
crownpost rafters some soot stained. South end and part of east wall, rebuilt
in C20 blockwork.
