ABRIDGE ROAD
Wall at Rolls Park fronting road

GV II

Wall, C17, on the SE side of Abridge Road, opposite the junction with Chigwell
Lane. Red brick, lime mortar, random bond, stone coping. (1) Straight section
aligned NE-SW, approx. 195 metres long, approx. 4 metres high, with piers
tapering at the top on the NW side only at intervals of approx. 4-metres,
interrupted by wide gateway of Garden Cottage Nurseries and narrow gateway of
Garden Cottage. Thickness mostly approx. 34cm., 45cm. at piers, 50cm. at base.
At NE end bonded to C18 wall approx. 6 metres long. (2) Curved section abutting
on the SW end, included for Group Value with The Stables. Height approx. 3
metres, more altered and repaired, forms splayed entrance (blocked) and
continues southwards to gateway of The Stables. Formerly the boundary wall of
Rolls Park, demolished.
