4/45 Great West Hatch

GV II

House, early C19, now a residential institution. Stock bricks, stucco
dressings, roof not visible behind parapet but presumably of slate. 2 parallel
ranges aligned approx. N-S, aspect W, the rear range projecting at both sides to
form a broad T-plan. Chimney stacks at both ends of front range and in the SW
angle. 2 storeys and basement. Central half-glazed double doors with plain
fanlight, porch with 2 Doric columns and pilasters, fluted architrave with
rosettes, at head of 5 stone steps. 4 double-hung sash windows of 12 lights
under flat arches of gauged brick. First floor, 5 similar windows, the central
one in a shallow recess with round arch of gauged brick. The door and inner
windows stand slightly forward of the rest. Stucco string course at first-floor
level. Enriched cornice, and parapet with 3 recessed panels in the middle. Rear
range has the same string course, cornice and parapet, with 4 dummy window
recesses in the W elevation of each wing. At the N end of the rear range there
is a bow of 3 curved double-hung sash windows of 16 lights, ground floor only.
