7/17 Granary approx. 50 metres
SE of Lambourne Hall

Granary, late C16, extended C18. Timber framed, weatherboarded, no roofing
material in July 1983, supported on 12 piers of tarred red brick. Jowled posts
and arched braces trenched inside studs in original part, unjowled posts and
primary straight bracing in NW,extension. Heavy studding. Inserted tiebeam
across middle of original structure. Hipped roof, clasped purlins. Probably
the granary has been moved, for the usual position of an early granary is within
5 metres of the back door, both guarded by the same dog. The present brick
piers support this suggestion, for they are much later in date than the original
structure. Granaries of the C16 are rare; there is one at Colville Hall, White
