Garden wall. C17/C18. There is a scratched date "I.S. 1821" at the base of the
east wall. Red brick, approx. 15 ft. high with semi-circular brick coping, the
wall encloses the original garden. The central wrought iron south gate, with
matching side panels and head is supported by brick pillars with stone eagle
finials, the emblem of the Du Cane family. Spur walls with urn finials and
north wall angles with foliated ball finials. There are 2 brick built gardeners
sheds attached to east and west walls. To the east of this walled garden is a
raised walk supported to the east by the ha-ha q.v. 2/1/52 and with terminal
urns q.v. 2/53. The whole good examples of their kind and one of the few
surviving features of this date in Essex.
