House. C16 or earlier with later alterations and additions. Timber framed.
C18 red brick faced, weatherboarded left return. Red plain tiled roofs, hipped
to right crosswing which has 2 red brick chimney stacks, centre stack to left
main range. 2 storeys and attics. 3 segmental headed dormers to main range.
Coping and band to parapet. 3:1 window range of small paned vertically sliding
sashes, mainly tripartite, with one range to left return of crosswing. Reveal
panels, moulded surround, frieze and moulded pediment, 6 panelled door to right
of main range. Sun Insurance plaque to first floor. Rear wing to right.
Interior features include heavy close set timber frame to original build of
house and crosswing, stop chamfered bridging joists, segmental arched door head
to crosswing ground floor, this crosswing with fragment of simple 2 armed crown
post roof. Side purlin roof pegged at apex, to main range, re-using some sooted
timbers. Large back to back inglenook fireplace, flat mantel beam over, cast
iron fireback, possibly from elsewhere. Newel staircase. C18 features include
panelled doors with moulded surrounds. Segmental arches to ground and first
floor. Some doors with L hinges, one small door with cockshead hinges. John
Broke of New Hall was presented for not attending Church 1566.
