1/10002 Distillery at former
Gilbey's Headquarters


Gin distillery. Designed with office headquarters and warehouse
(separately described) for Gilbey's. Built 1962-3. Designed by Peter
Falconer and Associates for the Design Research Unit in consultation
with Alexnder Gibson. The landscaping was designed by Dame Sylvia Crowe.
Blue engineering brick to single storey "podium" and to rear wall of
taller block which rises out of this and formerly contained the
distilling equipment. White concrete panels to the flanks of the taller
block, separated from the brick by a vertical 'flash gap' of glazing.
Dramatic fully glazed wall to north which was designed to display the
floodlit equipment within. Tall concrete chimney to south-west, rising
out of the low block. An integral part of a carefully conceived group
designed for Gilbey's (with the office and attached warehouse - see
separate description).
