Garden wall and attached gardener's cottage. Wall. C17. Red brick, irregular
bonding; division wall in centre on north-south axis. Encloses garden said to be
the largest in Essex. Gardener's cottage attached to central division wall, which
appears to form part of it. Probably C17 and later. Part red brick, English bond
to ground floor, but rendered over southern half, the north part raised in Flemish
bond brickwork, the southern half upper storey timber framed and rendered. Hipped
peg tile roof. C20 stack on north west angle, earlier stack with west face of roof.
2 storeys, with late C20 weather-boarded lean-to to north. West facade, boarded
door beneath arched head. Irregularly placed small pane casements also with arched
heads, and with cast iron lights with Gothic pointed arched panes. All of two
lights, except that to left of door, which is a single light. Timber framing of
reasonable scantling; earlier window opening to rear. Front elevation has C17
cellar access with relieving arch and pegged timber surround.
