House, early C17 with late C19 recasing. 2 storey, timber framed and plastered
'baffle entry' house with gabled peg tile roofs. 2 late C19 rear extensions form a
'U' shaped plan around a court. Front has painted imitation timber frame, small
paned casements, decorative C19 openwork porch, and cusped bargeboards with finials,
rebuilt off-centre stack with diagonal shafts and gable end stack at N. Rear block
has similar character, that to the S having false jetty. Interior has substantial
timber frame with wide chamfers, 2 parallel spine floor beams and halved and bladed
scarf joints. Original stack has 2 fireplaces on each floor, that to the parlour
with arched brick head. N bay is framed as a crosswing. Baffle entry vestibule has
C17 panelling and wall bench. In rear room a mid-C18 fitted corner cupboard with
raised and fielded door panels. Yard to rear has wooden cased yard pump with cast
iron spout. (RCHM 21). -
