Late C14 house, with early C16 extensions. Timber framed and plastered, with red
plain tile roof. 2 storeys. 3, 3-window range, modern casements. C16 red brick
chimney stacks, partially rebuilt. The west range consists of a late C14 open hall
house, with floored end bay to the west and jettied crosswing to the east. The latter
formerly gabled, now oversailed. Timber frame is exposed externally with multiple
bracing. The C16 extension to the east has a long wall jetty. Internally, most of
the timber frame remains, with richly moulded and crenellated beams, jowled storey
posts cambered tie beams, and crown post roofs. The screens passage is incorporated
in the cross-wing, and opens into the hall through a wide arch. (RCHM 23).
