SO 72 SW NEWENT -

7/63 Gatepiers and gates, The Moat

GV II

Gatepiers and gates: late C17 or early c18. Square piers each side
of gates. Flemish bond brickwork, with stone tops, wrought-iron
gates. Brick plinth over moat; stone hinge blocks in nib for
qates; moulded stone cornice to piers, with stepped stone base
above to ball finials. Pair of gates, slightly larger stiles, with
curved tops; St. Andrew's cross of semi-circular braces in bottom
half, mid rail above, sagging top rail, with clashing stiles same
height as hanging ones. Dog and and main bars have spear finials.
