Gates and gatepiers: 1863, by Jacques and Son. Ashlar stone and
wrought iron. Gatepiers either side double gates, single gate to
right with further pier. Main piers, chamfered top to square
plinth, corners chamfered above in 2 stages to form octagon:
moulding to top, truncated ogee capping. Gates, heavier main
frame, double bottom rails with St. Andrew's crosses between main
bars; dog bars above in addition; double centre rail with
quatrefoils between main bars, single top rail, fleur-de-lys tops
to main bars above. To right single pedestrian gate, lower, as
main gates but with single bottom rail. Pier beyond lower, forms
octagon in single stage, moulding to pointed head, in 4 serrated
stages. Forms group with chapels, (q.v.). (D.Verey,
