GV II

Farmhouse: C17, C18. Main part English-bond brickwork, on part
brick, part random rubble stone plinth (but exposed only at left
end). To right brick-nogged timber-frame, part rebuilt brick on
random-rubble stone right return. Tiled roof, part of rear slope
stone slate. L-plan: one-room deep, 3-room, 2-storey and attics
main block, with gabled 2-storey section on right forming return
leg. Entrance front facing church: to left 3-light C20 casement
window in bottom part of dummy opening, cambered brick arch over.
To right flat-roofed, canted single-storey bay, sash window,
cambered brick arch over in main wail: above on main wall outline
of wide gable. To right 6-panel front door up 3 stone steps; top
panels glazed: flat porch with moulded edge above, on brackets.
Similar bay to right, without gable outline: cambered head to
barred cellar opening below. First floor, plain brick string
course: dummy opening with cambered brick arch on left; 3-light
casement windows over bays, iron-opening lights, cambered brick
arches: 2-light similar over door. Hipped roof, 4 hipped dormers
from eaves, with 2-light casements. Small brick stack towards
rear of left end, 2 large ridge chimneys, each to left of a bay
window. To right timber-framed gable, 2-panels high per floor,
eaves much lower than main block: cambered head to barred cellar
opening below sill on left: canted, flat-roofed single-storey bay
slightly left of centre, 2-light casement. To right end of brick
casing to ground floor on right return, tiled top. First floor
thin intermediate stud to some panels: 3-light casement in centre,
tie beam to jettied gable over partly cut away for window head.
Curved brace to wall plate on right, some curved. formers for coved
jetty. Ends of ceiling beams show in brick nogging; 2 pairs
purlins. Two external brick chimneys on right return: rear of
wing rebuilt in brick. Interior cross passage from front door, 2-
panel door to room on right, 2-panel doors to cupboards. Panelled
shutters and panelling below bay windows in rooms left and right.
Subsidiary stair only in brick section, originally off room to left
of entrance behind chimney: main stair in timber-framed wing with
heavy handrail. Deep chamfer to ceiling beams in front room same
wing. Said to have been largely rebuilt following a fire. Forms
group with church and 2 barns, (q.v.).
