Brown's End

GV II

Barn, attached shelter shed and yard wall: 1839 by J.G. Price
(datestone). Random rubble stone, brick dressings to openings and
corners of barn, slate roof. Central threshing floor barn, 5-bay
shed at right-angles, all one storey. Barn towards house: double
boarded doors on timber door posts rising to cambered timber head
immediately below heavy wallplate. Semi-circular headed opening
each side infilled by brick ventilating grille. Hipped roof.
Internally stone-paved threshing floor, with low, boarded wall on
right, stopping short of external wall at far end: originally
similar on left, since removed. Roof 5 bays, centre widest:
queen-post trusses with iron bolts, 2 pairs purlins, short king
post off collar to carry ridge plank. Behind walled yard for
cattle: on left open-fronted shed for loose cattle, timber posts
on stone bases, hip at right end. Of same date as barn, although
covering large grille. Internally 2 pairs purlins supported by
angled struts off tie beams; tie beams all reused crucks. Plank
ridge. Little altered set of buildings related to house (q.v.):
doors towards house partly patched and cut about.
