SO 72 NE (north side)

10/49 Store, about lm north of
Hill Cottage


Former part of house, now garage/store. Probably C15, partly
rebuilt C17 and C18. Brick nogged timber framing on stone plinth,
coursed, squared blue lias stone to left return gable: tiled roof.
Two bays, one room deep. Side wall: end of stone gable on left:
framing 2 panel high. Stone replaces end post: 2 panels framing,
double boarded doors to garage, weatherboard above: 2-light
window. Brick section with boarded door. Right return full cruck
truss, originally open, blocking pieces to lower purlins off spurs,
arch-braces to collar, curved struts above. Inserted floor beam
with heavy chamfer: square-panel framing beneath to right, thin
studs to left and above, with 2-light C20 mullion and transom
window to upper floor. Internally timber-framed cross wall to
right of centre, blocked original door towards rear: 3 beams
across to cruck truss. Above back of truss and short length of
original purlins blackened: 2 pairs clean purlins of different
shape and plank ridge abut, in surviving structure: truss off
floor beam principal rafters with curved feet and collar. Rebuilt
end of cruck house, retaining one open truss to hall: rest of hall
