5/76 Cider House, Hill Farm,
approximately 50m north-west of
farmhouse

GV II

Former cider house, now farm store. Probably late C17 or very
early C18. Brick-nogged timber framing on stone plinth:
corrugated-iron roof. Three-bays, lofted. Framing square, 3
panels high to eaves. Gable towards house, left half altered to
form wide opening, 2 panels high, originally window to left of
centre. Truss 2 layers square panels, V struts in apex. Left
return boarded over doorway in centre.
Internally cross wall separates rear bay; front section upper
floor raised: rough plaster to panels on left; doorway on left to
rear room, ground floor lower. Interrupted tie beam truss, with
collar and braces to main posts. Two pairs purlins, square ridge.
Cider press originally in front 2 bays: loft floor above now
largely removed: in rear section floor may be an insertion. Lean-
to not of special interest. An early example of a cider house:
forms group with barn and house (q.v.).
