GV II

Cottage. 1848 by F.O'Connor for the National Co-operative Land
Company; later alterations. Painted Monk bond brickwork, stone
plinth, slate roof. Three-room front, one room deep, leanto rear,
single storey. Rendered reveals to all front openings, flat,
rubbed brick arches. Centre projecting slightly: 6-panel door,
top 4 glazed, bottom 2 flush, up 2 steps. Single-light 8-pane
casement each side. Plain brick string course to foot of gable,
returned up verges: quatrefoil stone vent in gable. Verge rafters
on consoles at foot. Two-light C20 casements in wings; double
oversailing eaves course. Gable chimneys slightly corbelled out:
third chimney centre rear. Leanto garage on left return not of
special interest. Originally with 2-acre holding; listed
principally for historical and sociological interest: forms group
with other Chartist cottages and school opposite (q.v.).
