13/213 Wayside Cottage


House. C15 or early C16, altered C17, C18, C19, C20. Brick-
nogged timber-framing gable, to south painted English garden wall
bond brickwork; framing renewed in part brick, part stone on
front: slate roof. Three bays, one room deep. 1 1/2 storeys.
Entrance front: wall rebuilt in stone left end: brick chimney
above from eaves. Framed section, narrow panels, to right.
Boarded door, gabled wooden porch roof over on angle brackets. To
right wall rebuilt in brick, stone at bottom; 3-light mid C20
metal casement window. Boarded door to right, porch repeat of one
to left. Framing to right replaced by brickwork, in lower part
wall, some stone at foot: 2-light casement window. Above, gabled
dormer left of centre, 2-light casement; half-hipped roof, chimney
behind ridge to right of centre; brick external chimney on right
end, tiled offsets. Internally large chamfer to ceiling beams in
right room; 2 elbow cruck trusses complete, wallplate ties, one
pair purlins, square ridge.
