Description

SP 1634 NW 9/107 BLOCKLEY HIGH STREET
(North-West side)

Rock Cottage
GV
II

Unusual early C19 villa, altered. Three storeys and gable-lit attic. Coursed rubble
with concrete slate roof; coped verges. Ground floor now basement with vaulted
terrace to 1st floor (present ground floor) in front. Three windows, triangular-
headed, modern casements and shutters; extended as French windows to present ground
floor; central gabled porch. Triangular-headed doorway in central arch below terrace.

The connection with Joanna Southcott "The Prophetess" who lived here 1804-1874 is
important especially in view of the chapel on the other side of the road (now a
cottage q.v ).
