12/84 Boundary wall to Manor House

II

Boundary wall to Manor House grounds (q.v.). C18 and late C19.
Two C20 piers at N end of wall. Coursed, squared limestone with
triangular coping and ashlar limestone piers. Wall about 3m high
running from Church steps along east side of Church Lane and Main
Street as far as Chestnut Cottage. Two, entrances with flanking
piers to Church Lane. Left opening, C19, with piers, with sunken
panels rising to a point. Square moulded tops stepped up to form a
pair. Opening to right has C18 limestone piers with sunken
rectangular panels and square moulded tops. Ball finial on left
pier. Plank door with strap hinges in flat-chamfered depressed
stone arch right. Wall was raised in height late C19. Wall and
gate piers form a prominent feature from the main road.
