12/99 The Old Smithy and Store behind


GV II

Old smithy with gable end to road and store. C19. Old smithy:
brick with some C20 rebuilding. Dentilled eaves. Limestone slate
roof with chimney from eaves rear right. Store behind: brick (rat
trap bond) with square panelled, timber framing to rear. Grey slate
roof. Old smithy comprises one room store to rear, 2 roomed.
Facade old smith: 3 storeys, one-windowed. All windows with
segmental heads. Store behind has garage doors right and plank
door with C19 casement with ventilation bars left. Nothing remains
of forge inside smithy which lies in a prominent position on a
corner in the Main Street. Included for group value.
