Description

BIBURY A433, Arlington
SP 1006-1106
(south side)
11/29 Arlington Lodge
23.1.52
II
Large detached house. c1700; early and later C19 additions.
Coursed rubble limestone; ashlar and brick rebuilt chimneys;
stone slate roof. Two storey with attic and cellar to north west
range (front); parallel range added on garden side with further
projecting addition to east end. North west front: originally 5-
window fenestration, all cross windows with ashlar band set flush
in masonry at transom level; plain projecting upper floor level
band. Former central doorway, now with cross window. Three
hipped roof dormers; 2 chimneys, one to each original gable end.
Range extended by one window to left with fenestration to match,
further gable end chimney and doorway inserted at junction with
earlier range. Adjoining former barn to left is not of special
interest. South east side: scattered fenestration to parallel
range to left includes bipartite sash window to ground floor to
left of C19 parapet gabled porch; two upper floor 12-pane sashes
with stone flat arches. Projecting cross-gabled addition to right
has 2-storey canted bay with mullioned and transomed casements and
hipped roof. Interior not inspected; apparently extensively
altered in early C19. Some front casements retain panelled
shutters.
