11/97 Forge approximately 5m to
north west of The Little
Forge building. Late C18. Random rubble limestone, some ashlar
piers; Welsh slate roof. Rectangular with attachment on south
side; single-storey. Simple building with low-pitched roof.
Doorway with timber lintel on north side now has panel with fixed-
light containing engraved glass trading notice; larger window
opening to right has later casement. Central casement with timber
lintel to east gable end with doorway to right having timber lintel
and plank stable door. Leaded casement to south side.
Interior: central stone forge; chimney dismantled. C19 collar
truss roof. This purpose-built forge building retains many
fittings connected with the blacksmith's trade. A forge has been
recorded on this site since 1698. In course of restoration to
working order at time of survey (March 1986).
