Almshouses, later farmhouse, now dwellings. Dated 1815. Squared and coursed rubble
front, rubble back and brick flanks, former crenellations recently replaced by plain
coping. Slate roof, some replaced areas. Two storey, but high facade with two blind
pointed arches at higher level, one containing inscription and date. Nos 1 and 2
original pointed windows, two to each unit widely spaced, wood casements with uncusped
tracery heads, No. 3 rebuilt and with modern rectangular casements under flat lintels
and stone hoods, not to proportion or spacing of original. No 1 retains original
ledged double door on iron strap hinges and leaded lights over.
This the original Rowland Hill Almshouses for twelve elderly women; now surrounded by
recent housing.
