Dwelling, formerly inn, The Shearmans Arms. Early C19. Rubble, stone slate and plain
tile roof. Complex block of two building phases, parallel range; long return, right,
faces access lane to Waterloo Mill. Two storeys (becoming three storeys on return),
4-windowed, sashes with glazing bars, set at wall face and in segmental arches with
keystones upper floor; ground floor late Victorian openings to Smoke Room and Bar, door
with hood on brackets linked to window under broad discharge arch with stone voussoirs.
Return has 3-windowed, three-storey unit, sashes with glazing bars, set to broad sash
boxes. An important visual stop to Ludgate Hill.
